Nurse Spotlight: Michelle Willhite

Nurse Spotlight: Michelle Willhite

As we continue to celebrate the Year of the Nurse at Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, we’re putting the spotlight on Lawrence Presbyterian Manor's director of nursing, Michelle Willhite.

How long have you worked at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor?

I started here in June of 2018.

What inspired you to become a nurse?

My grandma. She was a surgical nurse at the VA in Topeka for 25 years.

What makes PMMA a special place to work?

The great team that I work with and the residents that live here.

How do you feel about the residents you care for?

They become family. You get to know them, and I love hearing their stories.

What advice would you give nurses who are just starting their career?

Find your niche in nursing but understand that may change. Be open to exploring different areas to find the one that really speaks to your nursing soul.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

KU basketball, Chiefs football, camping and spending time with friends and family.

Tell us about your family.

I’m married with three kids and two dogs.

The World Health Organization designated 2020 as “the year of the nurse.” This observation coincides with the 200th birth anniversary of revolutionary nurse Florence Nightingale, whose leadership forever elevated the nursing profession. Throughout the year, PMMA communities will shine a spotlight on nurses as part of this global recognition. You can share your nurse story by sending an email to 2020YearoftheNurse@pmma.org.
