Golfers from Arkansas City, Winfield and across the area showed up big for Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor’s annual Golfin’ for Good Sam tournament, making another year a success.
The tournament was held on Saturday May 2 at Winfield Country Club and raised more than $13,700 for the Good Samaritan program, which allows seniors at the Manor to continue living there even after they’ve exhausted their financial resources.
“After decades, this tournament has grown into something greater than a sporting event,” said Colton Kester, Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor executive director.. “It represents our shared commitment to building a stronger, more supportive community for our residents.”
60 golfers participated in the four-person scramble. The winners were:
Flight A
1) Ryan Minton, Nate Adler, Will Adler, KC Crandall
2) Chris Groves, Jeff Shaw, Mike Shimanek, JR Dowler
3) Ryan Williams, Kyle Tipton, Seth Graves, Austin Graves
Flight B
1) Doug Owen, Hunter Thompson, Isaac Ray, Evan Hayes
2) Alan Teufel, Michael Mora, Zack Stoy, Zak Larson
3) Larry McIntosh, Drew McIntosh, Evan Nichols, Logan Edelson
Another part of the tradition is the annual Karl and Dorothy Fadley Memorial Golf Ball Drop – a chance to participate for those who don’t want to golf. The ball drop winners were:
$500: Chris Groves
$300: Zack Stoy
$200: Lyle Grewing
“Each year I’m reminded why this tournament is so special,” said Stacy Pike, tournament coordinator. “Golf may be what brings everyone together, but the event is really about standing together to make life better for our residents.”
The tournament wouldn’t be possible without the support the community. This year, 37 sponsors supported the tournament and we’re grateful for their generosity.
