PMMA breaks ground on newest project

PMMA breaks ground on newest project

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®) has broken ground on Colorado Springs’ newest senior living community, Aberdeen Ridge. The $140 million project is a collaboration between PMMA® and Greystone Communities and is located on a 15.25-acre site within 1.5 miles of Garden of the Gods National Park.

Construction for Aberdeen Ridge is expected to open to residents in 2023. The senior living community will feature 171 one- and two-bedroom independent living residences, 40 assisted living apartments and 24 memory care suites.

PMMA operates 15 senior living communities and 2 hospices across Kansas and Missouri. For more than 70 years, PMMA communities have provided quality senior services guided by Christian values.  In 2018, PMMA acquired the undeveloped Colorado Springs property from a Texas not-for-profit that had already secured the permits and approvals for a senior living community.

“PMMA continues to be excited for the opportunity to expand our mission of serving seniors to the Colorado Springs area,” said Bruce H. Shogren, president and chief executive officer of PMMA. “We look forward to the development and completion of Aberdeen Ridge and the opening of its doors to our initial residents’ and their new home.”

Recent Census Bureau reports show more than 57,000 Colorado Springs residents are already 65 years or older, and that number is expected to continue to grow by 11-percent over the next 10 years.

The project, announced in 2019, has experienced consistent and growing interest despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are thrilled to reach this significant milestone after years of planning,” said Stuart Jackson, senior vice president of client services at Greystone. “We have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with PMMA and are excited to see them expand into Colorado.”

Seniors have been attracted to the various living options complemented by the professional, dedicated care and support they will receive at the community. The community features a range of amenities and activities to offer an exciting, active lifestyle options for seniors in the Colorado Springs market.

“We have been engaging local seniors and their families for the past two years, and it’s encouraging to witness their interest and expressions regarding our new community. It’s clear there is need and demand for this living option,” Shogren said. “We are excited to contribute to healthy, thriving lives here in Colorado Springs for many years ahead.”

Future residents will enjoy numerous services and amenities, including fine dining, beautiful gardens and walking trails, a fitness center, heated pool, coffee shop and a bistro. Aberdeen Ridge is the first in Colorado Springs to offer protection of the resident’s estate through a largely refundable entrance fee.

“Aberdeen Ridge isn’t just about senior living. It’s about purposeful living,” adds Shogren. “Our community is designed for those who want to pursue physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being every day. We offer all the comforts of home and more.”
