Studio owner Gaylene Sawdy, standing, oversees the projects of Manor residents Jackie Jahde, Margaret McHugh, Dorothy Sellens and Helen Brecheisen.

Lunch at Cinnamon’s Deli and an afternoon of art. What could be better? “Nothing, I just love all kinds of art and I loved doing this,” exclaimed resident Jackie Jahde.

Store owner Gaylene Sawdy told participating residents how she got started, moving here from Colorado with the idea. After giving us a brief list of instructions, residents were ready for the most difficult task: choosing which piece to paint. The pottery ranges from small magnets to big plates. Most of the residents chose to paint a magnet they could put on their refrigerator, while Dorothy Sellens chose a wine glass holder to give to her daughter for her birthday. Gaylene then helped residents select their designs and colors.

The new works of art remained at the studio so they could be burned.

The finished pottery arrived a couple of days later, and the residents were delighted to see how their pieces turned out. The residents had so much fun they requested to go back.
