Residents and friends enjoy the Topeka Big Band

Topeka Big Band

 

The Topeka Big Band entertained at the Manor the evening of April 29. Formerly known at the Menninger Band, this well-known community band has been a part of Topeka for many years and its members are of all ages and professions.

They come together to play big band music for many events and groups in the Topeka area. The band started the program with “Moonlight Serenade.” Also included in the program was “Caravan” with the arrangement by the band Chicago;, a Latin tune, “The Girl From Ipanema;” the well known “Ain’t Misbehavin;” and the Beatles’ "And I Love Her.” Director Cliff Manning said that every band has a train song and the Big Band played “Night Train,” and finished the program with “Tuxedo Junction.” The music brought back memories of nights out dancing.
