Residents donate eyeglasses to help the needy

In response to a suggestion from resident Dick Hutcheson, Presbyterian Manor has helped to improve the eyesight of others.

Hutcheson, a former Lion, suggested that Manor residents and staff who have eyeglasses they no longer need could give them to the Lions Club to be rejuvenated at their eyeglass recycling centers.

Donated glasses will be cleaned, repaired and classified by prescription, then distributed to those in need by Lion volunteers and other organizations that have optical missions in developing countries.

The Lions Club has for more than 80 years collected used eyeglasses for distribution to the needy in developing nations. Since 1996, more than 37 million eyeglasses have been collected, and the number of donations each year continues to grow.
