Presbyterian Manor of Sterling hosts grand re-opening April 6

Home is the place that tugs at our hearts and calls our names. Home is where we can be ourselves. It is where we can relax, knowing that we belong. Kay Kane, a former resident of Presbyterian Manor of Sterling, treasured her home. Now, through a generous gift from her estate, the Manor has enhanced that home by refurbishing its activity and dining rooms. And in Kane honor, a new resident kitchen is now known as The Kane Koffee Kitchen

The public is invited to join in a celebration of this project at a grand re-opening on Sunday, April 6. An open house will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Manor, located at 204 W. Washington. Hot dogs, milkshakes and ice cream sundaes will be served. There also will be entertainment and door prizes.

Kay Kane left a special legacy here at Presbyterian Manor, said Mike Rajewski, Manor executive director. The Manor was her home and she chose to benefit all of the residents, past and future, with her gift. We are truly blessed with the gift of offering newly renovated common areas of the Manor that make the residents feel right at home.

The Kane Koffee Kitchen features a cozy gathering place to visit or read the newspaper; a place to share a cup of coffee with friends and an ice cream and soda shop for an afternoon treat. The kitchen and ice cream and soda shop is wheelchair accessible and always open.

The kitchen includes a beverage dispenser featuring coffee, tea and juice and a Soda Shoppe that is open every Wednesday 2:30 to 3:30 PM offering made-to-order ice cream floats, sundaes, milkshakes, hamburgers, fries & hotdogs.

Other memorial gifts in honor of residents have already purchased a soft-serve ice cream machine for the kitchen area. Improvements to the dining room include new chandelier lighting, new fireplace, textured ceiling, cherry wood laminate floor and new window treatments which capture the feeling of a nice restaurant and modern solar shades that will filter out direct sunlight. A new china cabinet has also been added to display memorabilia about the Manor.
