Presbyterian Manor holds 27th anniversary soup supper

Presbyterian Manor hosted its 27th annual Good Samaritan Soup Supper event on Friday, October 18th, from 4:30p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Presbyterian Manor. Proceeds from the event totaled $31,400.00 thanks to the generosity of event donors, volunteers, and members of the Salina community who support this event each year.

The soup supper is Presbyterian Manor's annual fund raising event for the Good Samaritan assistance program. This program provides financial assistance for those residents who have outlived their personal resources, and to fund services and care that enhance the overall physical, mental and spiritual well being of our residents, regardless of the ability to pay.

Homemade chicken noodle soup and chili, relishes and fresh baked pies are on the menu annually. This year 1,161 tickets were sold and 922 individuals were served either-in house or via carry out.

Special drawing items and winners of those items were: antique Singer sewing machine donated by the Manor Arts and Crafts Group, won by E. M. Mann; “Grandma’s Garden” quilt donated by Nona Boyd, won by Marjorie Allen; one-week time share vacation donated by Randy and Kim Fair Duncan, won by Janice Spikes; holiday wreath donated by Pam Meehan, won by Perry Hunsley; $50 gasoline gift certificates donated by Triplett, Inc., won by Robert Weber, Marge Graham, Betty Wentz, Helen Ashton (2).

The Soup Supper is a major community event where Salina residents meet their neighbors and friends for a good meal and conversation. Participation in the event among those in the community continues to increase each year.

Volunteers from the community at large and from residents and staff of Presbyterian Manor plan for months and work many hours to bring the Soup Supper together each year. Whether a volunteer bakes, hosts, greets, cuts pies, sells tickets at the door, serves food or cleans tables everyone works together very well to make the Manor the place to be on Soup Supper night.
