PEAK, Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas, is a cooperative program of the KDOA and Kansas State University. The goal of this initiative is to change the culture of long-term care through recognition and education. Presbyterian Manor in Salina is one of nine locations selected to receive an award this year.
“This is a great recognition for the ability of our staff to provide care and services in an environment as much like home as possible,” said Fran Paxton, executive director. “With everything we do, we try to ask ourselves what our residents want, how they did it at home, and how we would want it done. This includes everything from meals to activities to schedules.”
On the application submitted for the PEAK Award competition, Presbyterian Manor included recently implemented programs that enhanced resident choice, staff empowerment, community involvement, and the physical environment. The nine state winners of the 2007 PEAK Award will be recognized this year at fall and winter conferences of the KDOA and the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (KAHSA). In addition, KSU will continue developing education modules, incorporating the innovative ideas of Presbyterian Manor and other winners.
“We are very proud of the Presbyterian Manor in Salina,” said William Ward, president and CEO of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America. “They accepted the challenge of the PEAK program, which emphasizes employing innovative alternatives for providing resident-focused care and services for our oldest Kansans. By creating a variety of avenues for change and being constantly mindful of residents’ needs and preferences, they provide an excellent atmosphere for senior living and also help to dispel negative stereotypes of senior living choices.”
Presbyterian Manor of Salina is a not-for-profit, active living and wellness community offering residential options including active living townhomes and apartment homes, assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing care for mature adults. The Manor has served Saline County since 1980.
