She helps with Marcia Hiebert’s arts and crafts group two or three times a week. Every Monday, she works with the craft group. She has been a secretary for executive council one year and was a cottage representative two years. She delivered Manor information to cottage residents for four years. “Several residents and I decided we needed a Manor paper for and about Manor residents and events. We made many mistakes but what interesting stories we learned about our residents. We called the paper Press Times,” she said. The paper was active for about 18 months. Phyllis said she decided to volunteer because it is an excellent way to meet residents and staff members. She enjoys how the residents appreciate little things being done for them, “It makes a person feel you are contributing a little happiness and cheer for all,” she said. She also likes learning new crafts. Originally from Albion, Neb., Phyllis and her husband, Donald (“Bud”), have three children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
