Additional support for the Shaping Tomorrow Capital Campaign has come from a Newton family and Newton business. The children and families of Dr. Dick and Betty Glover have committed $25,000 in honor of their parents. Dr. Glover, who died in
January 2008, was well known in the area after practicing medicine from 1954 to 1994. He served as the Manor’s medical director for several years. The Glovers moved into a Manor apartment in 2006, where Betty continues to reside. Family members underwriting the campaign in honor of their parents are: Dr. William and Mary Beck, Dr. Charles and Nancy Craig, James and Stephanie Glover, Dr. Richard and Rochelle Glover II, and Bruce and Meg Henderson. Said Nancy Glover Craig, “When the opportunity arose to name the private dining room in honor of our parents, we were very excited to be able to do this. All of us have been pleased with the Presbyterian Manor and the lovely apartment that our parents have moved into. Not only has the staff been caring but they go out of their way to do the extra things that makes it a special place to live. This is our way of honoring our parents and thanking Presbyterian Manor.” In addition, Midland National Bank pledged $25,000 to the campaign. The bank has been in business in Newton for more than 114 years and has operated a branch at the Manor since 1999. The gift is in honor of John C. and Elga Suderman. John C. was the president and chair of the bank from 1954 until 1975 when his sons John H. and John R. Suderman succeeded him. According to current chair John R., “It was the continuum of care that brought our parents to the Manor, but it is the care and the compassion that keeps us involved.”
