The Best of Show award was presented to Susan Kruger of Hesston for her watercolor titled, “The Music Maker.” Award recipients include the following: Drawing 1st Place -- Art A. Schmidt, N. Deane Frey, Newton, “Kalimantan” 2nd Place -- Earlene Hague, Newton, “Hunter’s Quilt” 3rd Place -- LaVerna Schierling, Newton, “Vintage Valentine” Fiber Arts 1st Place -- Rosie Wiebe, Newton, “Wedding Afghan” Painting 1st Place -- Geneva Flickner, Moundridge, “Golden Splendour” 2nd Place -- Carolyne Seymore, Hutchinson, “Bloom Where You’re Planted” 3rd Place -- Jeannette K. Seger, Newton, “We Used To Glide” Honorable Mention – Dorothy Young, Hesston, “Wild Iris” Carolyne Seymore, Hutchinson, “Washday Memories” Photography 1st Place -- Barbara DuBois, Newton, “Colorado Beauty” 2nd Place -- Barbara DuBois, Newton, “Dogwood Canyon” Mixed Media/Crafts 1st Place -- Earlene Hague, Newton, “Nativity Set” 2nd Place -- Dixie Knauss, Newton, “Lucinda Going Shopping” 3rd Place -- Ruth VanderWilt, Newton, “Apron” First place entries in each category will be submitted via slide to Presbyterian Manor’s systemwide contest for the 2009 calendar. An exhibit of these works and other pieces by 35 area artists are on exhibit through Wednesday in the Manor Library, 1200 E. 7th. The exhibit is open from 2 to 4 p.m. daily.
