Apple Blossom Festival 2008
 | | There are plenty of games for kids to enjoy at the annual Apple Blossom Festival, scheduled this year on April 25 | |
Over 20 years, Apple Blossom Festival brings quality family fun, entertainment and a great meal to the Newton community as the first outdoor celebration of spring. Set for Friday, April 25 at Presbyterian Manor, the event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Manor lawn at 1200 E. Seventh. “Apple Blossom Festival has always been a fun evening for all ages,” said Noelle Dickinson, marketing director. “We love that children can safely enjoy activities geared just for them while their parents and grandparents relax nearby, enjoying music and entertainment with a local flavor.” | | | Stage entertainment is fun for children and adults, featuring performers of all ages. |
Dinner is a whole hog barbecue with potato salad, baked beans, garlic bread and apple pie. Hot dogs, hamburgers & chips are also available. Proceeds of the dinner benefit Presbyterian Manor’s Good Samaritan Fund. Live entertainment begins at 5 p.m. with the following acts: Sniggle Fritz German Band Newton Community Children’s Chorus Apple-a-Day Preschool, Presbyterian Manor’s on-campus preschool Azteca Dancers Boeing Jazz Band Larry Thompson and the Big Buckle Band Kids activities run all evening and include the popular petting zoo, moonwalk, jousting set, fun cycles and banana bikes, as well as carnival games and a clown show. Many of the activities are free, but some will charge a small fee. | | A perennial favorite, the Sniggle Fritz German Band performs during the 2007 Apple Blossom Festival | |
Crafters and local vendors will be selling gifts, jewelry and home décor, while a baked goods booth sells homemade treats as well as Presbyterian Manor’s popular homemade apple butter. Antique cars, a horse-drawn carriage and the Newton Fire Department’s safe house will entertain and educate both children and adults. Manor employees have created theme baskets as an additional fundraiser for the Good Samaritan Fund this year. Basket themes range from “Great Gardening” to to “Chocolate Lover’s.” Baskets may be viewed & tickets may be purchased beginning April 20th in the Presbyterian Manor business office. Winners will be announced the night of the Festival. Festival tickets are $7 in advance for adults and $8 on site. Children ages 3 to 10 years old are $3 in advance and $4 the evening of the Festival. Group rates for 10 or more adults are $5. Tickets are available at the Manor. The Good Samaritan Fund provides financial assistance for Manor residents who have outlived their personal financial resources. Past Festivals have raised between $12,000 and $20,000 for the Fund. “We want to especially thank our Apple Blossom Festival sponsors,” said Shawn Sullivan, executive director. “Their support is what makes this wonderful community event possible.”
