 Home | Recent News | Newton | Apple Blossom Festival 01 May 2008 Annual Apple Blossom Festival was “awesome”Apple Blossom Festival brought in over $15,500 in sponsorships and ticket sales on Friday, April 25. Held on the Manor grounds for the first time in four years, the evening was crisp but beautiful with the background of purple redbud trees, green grass and pansies. Over 1,000 guests attended the Festival with 100 volunteers making the event possible. Proceeds of the hog roast and sponsorships benefit Presbyterian Manor’s Good Samaritan Fund. The cooperative Spring weather brought out around 1,200 guests who enjoyed live entertainment by Schniggle Fritz German Band, Apple-A-Day Preschoolers from Presbyterian Manor’s on-campus preschool, Newton Community Children’s Choir, Azteca Dancers, Boeing Jazz Band, and Larry Thompson and the Big Buckle Band. Kids activities included several popular blow-up attractions, the petting zoo, barrel train rides, fun cycles, banana bikes, horse-drawn carriage rides and carnival games. “We want to especially thank our Apple Blossom Festival sponsors,” said Shawn Sullivan, executive director. “Their support is what makes this wonderful community event possible.” Crafters and local vendors sold gifts, jewelry and home décor, while a baked goods booth sold homemade treats as well as Presbyterian Manor’s popular homemade apple butter. Manor employees created theme baskets as an additional fundraiser for the Good Samaritan Fund. Basket themes ranged from “Great Gardening” to “Chocolate Lover’s.” Tickets for the opportunity to were available at the baked goods booth where the baskets were on display. Premier sponsors include First Presbyterian Church, St. Luke Church and The Newton Kansan, with Hospice Care of Kansas and Horizon Milling as major sponsors.
