Picnic and more at the Manor

When someone says the word “picnic,” what image, smells, or memories come to mind? Usually when you say the word “picnic,” the inner kid emerges just after a big smile erupts on the face. Warm days, sunshine, grilled burgers and hot dogs on a table full of other favorites plus live music and the opportunity to just come and partake make it easy to kick back in the good ole summertime. The inner kid and smile emerge.

Presbyterian Manor keeps these memories alive with its annual Friends and Family Reunion Picnic. Attendance has grown over the past six years from 250 to over 400. This is always a fun and entertaining event with live music provided by Junk Yard Jazz, fun and games for the whole family, plus a chance to do some summertime visiting under the shade with good friends, family and food.

The annual affair began over 10 years ago with the picnic held during the week in the evening. Then it moved to the Saturday before July 4th since so many high school and college classes schedule reunions around the holiday and children would already be returning to Lawrence. The Kansas heat at that time of year presented a challenge so the second weekend in June was chosen as the next date to try. It has worked well the past three years with no rain-outs or formidable heat.

Come join us some June! The serving line begins at 11 a.m. and the band plays till 1 p.m. The only thing we cannot assure is that the ants will make an appearance.
