March Madness: A wonderful time of year

Yes, it is that time of year when the Lawrence community and the “Jayhawk Nation” turn their attention to basketball tournament time.

Here at the Manor, we are our own mini “Jayhawk Nation.” Residents enjoy sharing their KU memorabilia at a Jayhawks on Parade event. A special class in “bracketology” is conducted for those wanting to see how well they predict outcome of the basketball season. Tailgate luncheon buffets are held on game days. Shopping trips with the Manor van are scheduled to buy Sweet 16 and Final Four jewelry and t-shirts.

This year, there was even greater anticipation as KU was a top seed going into the NCAA tournament. Red and blue were almost the only colors you saw as the final game came around with KU playing.

We were glad to have the big screen TV and room for residents to gather ‘round as the final game started. With each basket, cheers echoed through the Manor. And when the final buzzer sounded, great shouts and plenty of celebrating reverberated through the Manor as KU claimed its fifth national NCAA title in overtime.
