'Music With Diana’ is more than ‘Name That Tune’

June 1, 2006

Diana Ice is a board-certified music therapist. She is celebrating five years of working with the residents here at Presbyterian Manor. Diana provides services to long-term care providers in the Kansas City area. Her areas of clinical expertise include adults with mental disorders and older adults in nursing care. Diana received her undergraduate degree from the University of Toledo. She holds a Master of Music Education in music therapy from the University of Kansas. She completed clinical training at the Menninger Foundation Adult Hospital in Topeka. She is on the board of directors for the Certification Board for Music Therapists and serves as the CBMT board’ s liaison to its Continuing Education Committee.

So, “What is music therapy?” It uses music to address a person’s physical, emotional, mental and social needs. Music therapy works with people of all ages and abilities.

Diana works with groups as well as individuals at bedside. She helps residents have fun with music by using guitar, singing, drums, shakers and rhythmic movement. The musical activities she uses stimulate and energize.

We are fortunate to have Diana here two mornings a week with her cart filled with “tools of the trade.” Thank You, Diana, for the past five years, and we look forward to many more years of working together to assist residents live the life they want to live!
