The Volunteer of the Year Award is designed to honor individuals whose volunteer achievements have made a difference to the lives of the people working and living in member organizations. Tucker, a retired Phillips Petroleum employee, has been a volunteer at Presbyterian Manor of Kansas City for more than seven years. He comes in every week to set up the ice cream and popcorn for one of the social activities at the Manor. “Tucker is an asset and guiding light to our volunteer program,” says Suzi Lockett, volunteer services coordinator at Presbyterian Manor. “He hardly ever misses work and when he is here he engages residents in conversation with good humor and friendliness. Many of our residents look forward to this activity because they love to visit with Tucker.” KAHSA is a statewide association of more than 160 nonprofit long-term care organizations and retirement communities. Its mission is to provide services to members to assist them in enhancing the quality of life of the elders they serve. This year KAHSA is celebrating the sixteenth year of the Quality First Awards of Excellence for outstanding programs at member organizations.
