Employees at Presbyterian Manor-Kansas City deliver their donations to their local food bank.

A competition conducted among employees of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America netted nearly 8,800 items for food banks in Kansas and Missouri. PMMA retirement communities, as well as the home office in Wichita, participated in the inaugural Food Roundup contest.

About half of PMMA’s 17 locations opened their food drives to welcome items donated from the public.

Presbyterian Manor–Kansas City collected the most items, 1,673. Presbyterian Manors’ Home Office in Wichita set the standard with the highest number of food items contributed with more than 13 items per employee. Of PMMA’s 17 locations, Parsons had the highest number of donated food items at 10.635 per employee. PMMA made a $350 donation to the Labette County Assistance Program to honor the Manor in Parsons for its achievement.

In addition to the Food Roundup, several PMMA locations are adopting families and are giving in other ways to their communities. Presbyterian Manor-Lawrence employees, for example, volunteer to ring Salvation Army bells and will host a New Year’s meal for 60 adults and children at a homeless shelter.

“The Food Roundup was initiated by a Home Office employee as a friendly competition to enhance employees’ holiday spirit while helping to meet the needs of local food banks in our service areas,” said Human Resources Vice President Ethel Smith. “Employee feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, ensuring the return of the competition next holiday season.”
