The day Megan Means began her job as the marketing director for Presbyterian Manor in Fulton, Vernon Davis was moving in as a new resident.

Vernon and Megan reunite at Presbyterian Manor in 2006.

One of the things he unpacked was a framed photo that had hung on his office wall for years: a clipping of a front-page article from the Fulton Sun from August 1988. Vernon, microphone in hand, was trying to talk to a shy contestant in the Little Mr./Little Miss Callaway County Fair Contest. That contestant was Megan.

Although there were few words spoken, the relationship the two formed was unforgettable. Vernon tried and tried to get little Megan to answer his questions or just share a few things about herself, but the shy girl refused to even take her fingers out of her mouth. Needless to say, Megan did not walk away with the title of the Little Miss Callaway County that year.

Now in 2006, the two are together again but this time Megan is willing to answer any questions Vernon has for her and is rarely short of words. As soon as they were reintroduced and discussed their past, it was like a grandfather and granddaughter sharing old memories.

granddaughter sharing old memories. “Vernon remembered the picture like it was yesterday,” Megan said. “As soon as we became reacquainted, he knew who I was. I couldn’t believe that after all of these years, we were brought together again.”

Today, the two see each other daily and there is no shyness when they talk.

“He always reminds me how I absolutely would not take my fingers out of my mouth. When I asked him if I should put my fingers in my mouth for a new picture of us together, he told me he thought we would both look much better if we smiled instead,” Megan said.

Executive Director Jackie Luetkemeyer said, “It was very exciting to see Megan and Vernon reconnect here at the Manor. They were both so happy to see each other. Listening to Vernon tell the story about how he first met Megan was so enjoyable. It truly is a small world, and it’s fun to know it was our Manor that brought these two together again.”
