Residents cruise the winter away

We went on a cruise the week of Jan. 22 through 28.

From spending our days playing shuffleboard to drinking refreshing tropical drinks such as frozen berry drinks, everyone had fun pretending that they we were having a day of fun in the sun.

On Tuesday, we had a good laugh with all the “tacky tourists” who joined us for our cruise.

From Hawaiian shirts, straw hats and flip-flops to silly sunglasses, everyone had a great time getting ready for our stop in the islands. We even remembered our sunscreen.

With palm trees and clear, blue refreshing water, staff and residents enjoyed building their own mini island with Styrofoam, clay, paint, blue cellophane and a lot of imagination.

Residents discussed what they might find or see on the island. Resident Walter Wissmann said that we needed to careful of the crabs that might pinch at our toes as we walk along the sandy beach. Resident Ruby Clevenger said she needs to wear plenty of sunscreen and a hat so that she doesn’t get sunburned.

Resident Evelyn Tucker stated she wanted a coconut from one of the palm trees so she could eat fresh coconut.

On Thursday, we went to Jamaica for the day. We started our day with a tour of the island to learn about its culture and see some of the spots that are very popular to visit when in Jamaica.

We saw beautiful beaches of white sand, as well as colorful wildflowers and we heard great music. Some of our stops while in Jamaica were Portland, Montego Bay, Kingston, Ocho Rios and Negril. We saw some beautiful mountains such as the Blue Mountains, Crow Mountains the Don Figueroa, and the Carpenter mountains.

When in Negril, we walked along some of the most beautiful beaches, and some residents were even tempted to go diving and snorkeling. We also discovered that there are many places to go and enjoy mineral springs.

As we ended our tour of Jamaica, everyone started that it was a fun-filled, enjoyable day.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our “cruise.” Who knows were our next cruise will take us? Stay tuned to find out our next destination.
