Presbyterian Manor recently had a visitor stop by to make new friends and experience new adventures within the Fulton community. Her name was Flat Sarah and she was created by a young student from Hudson, Wisconsin. The student’s class recently read the fictional story Flat Stanley and then created dolls to send around the world to learn about different cultures. This “pen pal” type project from the class in Wisconsin has become a popular assignment for students all over America. Even first grade classes in the Fulton School District are completing similar projects and sending their dolls all over the country to visit new places and experience new events.

Presbyterian Manor was introduced to Flat Sarah and was told to show her what it is like in our area of the country. Since Flat Sarah had never been to Presbyterian Manor before we shared our daily routines with her, dressed her in one of our Manor t-shirts, and introduced her to our residents. Flat Sarah had her nails painted during manicure time, received a tour of our community, visited with our residents, and admired our newly painted mural. Residents shared their favorite memories at the Manor and included Flat Sarah in activities, meals, and social hours. After returning to her native Wisconsin, Flat Sarah shared the wonderful experiences of Presbyterian Manor, the new friends she made, and showed pictures of her adventure. The young student received an A plus on her assignment and received an award for her project. Presbyterian Manor was happy to help in making the project a success and sharing life at the Manor with another generation.
