The Presbyterian Village Busy Bee quilting guild participated in a project for the state of Kansas while partnering with the Fort Scott National Historic Site and Eugene Ware’s fourth grade students. The students painted quilt blocks with the guidance of art teacher Russ Gordon. The Presbyterian Village Busy Bee quilting guild sewed and quilted the blocks together to form a quilt that would represent the local Old Fort. | | | Quilting can exercise more than one’s hands and creativity, as shown by members of Presbyterian Village’s Busy Bee quilting guild. The seniors worked with fourth graders on a project for the Fort Scott National Historic Site. |
The finished quilt will be on display at the Old Fort historical site museum beginning June 25 for two weeks. The general public is invited to stop by to see the quilts and vote for our quilt in order to gain national recognition for Fort Scott. A certificate and small monetary donation was made to the Presbyterian Village Busy Bee quilter’s guild May 26 by the national historic organization for creating a meaningful event for the children and visiting public who experienced the effect of the “many hands” that touched these quilts. The donation will be used to further the Village’s Art is Ageless program.
