Home | Recent News | Fort Scott | Magician and Illusionist Entertain 04 Jul 2007 A Magician and Illusionist Entertained Intergenerational Program ParticipantsThroughout the school year, two groups of kids have met after school with tenants from the Presbyterian Village once a month. They have had fun while forming lasting relationships that will hopefully impact how the children view aging and during the process some have learned new ways to view opportunities in their lives.
A culmination party signifying the end of our PATH/intergenerational program for this year was held in the community room on May 15. Don Reed Productions entertained 60 students and residents with a lively show of magic tricks and illusions. He also made balloon animals for each one of the kids who were there. Refreshments included ice cream sundaes for all. Reed threatened he would make them all disappear, no one wanted that to happen as the ice cream treats were a hit on a warm afternoon!
The PATH/intergenerational program is a grant funded program as an initiative of the Kansas Health Foundation in cooperation with Kansas State Research and Extension. The PATH program will officially ended on May 31. However, the Presbyterian Village has been awarded a sustainability mini-grant to fund an additional year of intergenerational programming. This will give us time to find alternative funding. During the upcoming year we will once again partner with the Presbyterian Church in order to bring these generations together to continue the work of making a positive impact on the lives of both children and seniors.
As we make our way through the new school year, we will be seeking an alternate source for funding this worthwhile program next year. If you know of a funding opportunity that may be able to help, please contact Ginger Dierksen, the executive director at (620) 223-5550.
