Lori Collier, our director of assisted living, invited our residents to visit the garden getaway she has created at her home. Residents spent a leisurely time seeing the pond, with fish for feeding, flowers for smelling, and areas to simply sit and enjoy the peaceful environment of the garden spaces. In one area of the garden, we spied a tricycle which Collier told us was the first one she had as a child. Now she can enjoy those memories when she sits in her garden. We got into a discussion about our gardens when we were children and as adults, along with a few childhood memories that the tricycle brought back for all of us. Jacqueline Hardy was intrigued with the arbor in the garden. It was made from an old lattice metal satellite dish and covered with a heavy vine. The branches in the vine were sturdy enough to support a bird's nest in which we could hear the hatchlings chirping to be fed. We also met Collier's dogs who also seem to enjoy the garden and meeting new people. We appreciated Collier sharing her half-acre of garden delights with us and can understand why she spends so much time in it when she is not at the Village. We look forward to returning as the fall plants bloom and the trees begin to change color.
