Fundraiser helps Presbyterian Village tenants remain in their homes

Chances are, you have heard of Presbyterian Village’s Annual Dinner and Auction. Every April, the not-for-profit retirement community offers a tasty dinner from Chicken Annie’s and a live auction, with local musicians providing entertainment. You have probably heard that it is a casual evening of fun. What you may not know is why this event is held.

“All of the proceeds directly benefit tenants at Fort Scott Presbyterian Village,” said Executive Director Ginger Dierksen. “As a mission-driven community, the Village makes every effort to provide care for those who call us home, even if they should outlive their personal financial resources.”

The annual dinner and auction is the largest fundraiser for the Village’s Good Samaritan Fund, which helps these tenants. The Good Samaritan Fund depends solely on donations from friends of the Village and surrounding community.

“An important result of our mission is caring for residents even when economic times are tough,” Dierksen said. “As our tenants age, their needs change and their resources may dwindle. As a result, some come to rely on government programs which do not keep pace with escalating costs. The Village’s Good Samaritan Fund fills in that gap. It is through support from local citizens to the Good Samaritan Fund that we are able to ensure our tenants’ peace of mind that they will receive continued quality care year after year.”

You can help raise money for the Good Samaritan Fund while at the same time enjoying good food and a fun auction at this year’s Village fundraiser on Thursday, April 29, at 2401 S. Horton. In addition to the Chicken Annie’s dinner, a drawing for a Caribbean cruse will be held, and the auction will have items for everyone’s budget.

Advance dinner tickets are just $6.50, and that includes homemade dessert and beverage. Carryout is also available. Dinner is served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets for an opportunity to win a Caribbean cruise are available for a suggested donation of $5 each or three tickets for $10.

The auction will again feature a wide range of items large and small, new and used, bargains and heirlooms. Jim Stewart, co-owner of Stewart/Kerly Auction Service, will return to entertain the crowd with his famed auctioneering prowess. A silent auction will also be held on selected items. The auction begins at 5:30 p.m.. Items will be available for viewing April 28.
