Home | Recent News | Farmington | Winter Weather 01 Oct 2006 Winter weather awes residents, staffWinter weather arrived in Farmington on Nov. 30, 2006. For days prior to Nov. 30, we’d been warned by local meteorologists that the area was going to get a snow/sleet mixture. At about 6 p.m., the rain/sleet mixture hit and it didn’t take long before we started watching our trees becoming weighed down by the ice. Soon, the ice was snapping trees on the Manor campus and knocking out our electricity. After the electricity went out, we began running the Manor generator, and we continued to use generator power until around 8 p.m. Saturday. During this time, a lot of employees spent extra time helping residents remain as comfortable and happy as possible. Some of the activities included a four hour bingo marathon. In the evening, one of our CNAs, Angel Thomas Lopez, sang Christmas carols with the residents. Residents picked out their favorite songs and we enjoyed singing them. Some other activities included playing card games such as Skip-bo and Rummy. We did a lot of reminiscing about our childhood Christmas experiences and we talked of the first automobiles we drove. Although the power outage was a surprise, it turned out to be a wonderful time to spend together. When the lights came on Saturday evening, we could hear cheering throughout the Manor.
