The evening began with a delicious dinner buffet prepared by the Manor’s dining services staff. Next Dr. Lisa Long local vocalist and musician got everyone in the celebratory spirit with her mix of country, classic rock, oldies and easy listening tunes. To complete the evening Jane Hull, executive director and Teresa Pinkley, volunteer coordinator, recognized approximately 80 volunteers for their helping hands during the past year at the Manor. These volunteers range in age from the young junior volunteers to retirees who offer their smiles and companionship. Whether it is delivering mail, spending one on one time reading or visiting, performing music and entertainment, working in the gift shop or shopping in town for residents needs, these generous people bring so much to the resident’s lives. Two outstanding volunteers received Presbyterian Manor’s Volunteer of the Year award. Resident Ora Bennett was chosen this year’s resident volunteer. Ms. Bennett serves as our “merry mender,” completing all of the hemming and stitching for our residents. For over ten years our Community Volunteer, Erma Hopkins has shopped weekly for our residents who are unable to get out and about on the Manor’s van. Pinkley, noted: “We are so fortunate and grateful to have all of these helping hands through out the year. These unsung heroes help in every department of the Manor; they enrich the residents’ life so much.” The third week of April is National Volunteer Appreciation Week each year.
