Home | Recent News | Farmington | Senior Olympics 01 Jun 2006 Senior Olympics offers many ‘sports’ It is that time of year again, time for our annual Senior Olympics. This year the Senior Olympics will be held at Mineral Area College on March 21. Scheduled events include wheelchair races, walking races, hot potato, ambulatory basketball, wheelchair basketball and bingo. The wheelchair and walking races are for any residents that are 55 years of age and older. There will be various heats for each age category. Residents will line up and the first three to cross the finish line will receive prizes. The hot potato contest will be open to all residents. Residents will gather in circle and pass around potatoes. Whoever has a potato when the music stops will be eliminated from the competition. This will continue until only one resident is left. Basketball is sure to be a fun event for all. There will be two separate games to accommodate residents who are able to walk or run as well as those who ambulate by the use of a wheelchair. There is no minimum age limit for this event. Bingo will be the final event. All residents are encouraged to play bingo. There will be plenty of prizes to ensure that everyone gets one. Lunch will be provided as well as drinks and snacks. Practice will be begin soon so that everyone will be prepared for the Mineral Area Senior Olympics. Anyone who has a story or poetry that they have written is encouraged to bring it with them. There will be opportunities for residents to read their work during lunch. Any resident who would like to be a part of the fun needs to let activity staff members know as soon as possible. Hope to see you there.
