For art enthusiasts or those who simply wanted to learn more about art, Presbyterian Manor hosted a demonstration on oil painting Tuesday, July 29.
“One of the purposes of Art is Ageless is to encourage seniors to explore the arts,” said Alison Sheets, Presbyterian Manor Marketing Director. “Studies have shown that involvement in creative pursuits can contribute to keeping one’s mind sharp as well as one’s overall well-being.”
The demonstration by Bonne Terre artist Larry Blevins offered an opportunity for approximately 35 Presbyterian Manor residents and guests to learn more about this medium.

Larry discussed brush techniques, choosing colors and best lighting practices.
Mr. Blevins has been painting since the 1970’s. He is mainly self taught with the exceptions of one week classes under the direction of Bill Alexander and Terry Issac. He has taught painting techniques in churches, craft shops even a pizza parlor basement once served as a classroom. Larry now has a studio in his home in Terre Du Lac. When asked about his love of teaching he replied “I enjoy teaching students.
They will typically tell me they can’t even draw a stick man but after a little encouragement they really surprise themselves”.
