Medicare prescription drug program informational meeting to be held

Presbyterian Manor will be the site of a Medicare Prescription Drug Program informational meeting on September 21 beginning at 2 p.m. Everyone who is on Medicare Part A and/or Part B will be eligible for the prescription drug program; some people will also be eligible for extra help in paying the premium and co-pay.

People on Medicare as well as “dual eligibles” -- people who receive Medicare and Medicaid or Medicare and SSI benefits, will start receiving their drug benefit through the Medicare program beginning January 1, 2006. This is new for both those on Medicare (who generally have never received prescription drug benefits through Medicare) and also new for those “dual eligibles” who have been receiving their prescription drug benefits from Medicaid. Because this is new to everyone, one or more meetings will be held in each of the 18 counties that are served by the agency to give people more information.

Ruth Dockins, Public Information Director for the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging will be presenting information about this program, how it will work, when and how to apply, and who will be eligible for “extra help” in paying for it.

There is no charge for this meeting, if you are insured by Medicare, then this is a meeting you should plan to attend.
