Trip to Elephant Rocks a sure cure for the cabin fever of early fall

When cabin fever sets in, we set out on a new adventure. So on October 6, we took a trip to Elephant Rocks State Park. The park is made up of a whole bunch of giant granite rocks standing end-to-end like elephants on parade. The park, a commercial quarry in the 1800s, is now home to “Dumbo,” one of the largest elephant rocks. Dumbo weighs a whopping 680 tons!

Among the park’s trails is a one-mile walk called the Braille Trail, designed for people with visual or physical disabilities, and perfect for a leisurely stroll through the rocks. There is also a quarry pond that can be seen while walking along the pathways.

After walking the trail and even playing on the rocks some, we sat down in one of the park’s 30 beautiful shaded picnic sites to eat the sack lunches that we brought along. The sky was blue, and the birds were singing. There was a light breeze blowing through the 70-degree air.

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect fall day!
