Ora Bennett, Kay Bischoff (guest), and Betty Luig take advantage of the opportunity to "play in the clay" during the demonstration with Bobbi Kemna, Art is Ageless Ambassador.

A new addition to the Art is Ageless program this year, the Art is Ageless Ambassador Tour, brought pottery artist Bobbi Kemna to the Manor for A Day in the Clay in June. The purpose of the Ambassador Tour was to make the community aware that the Art is Ageless juried exhibit would be coming up in a few weeks. Kemna, a winning artist in last year's competition from Fort Scott, Kans. visited the Manor in Farmington for an afternoon of hand built pottery demonstration.

About 20 Manor residents and seniors from the community participated in the opportunity to try their hand at making a pinch pot. Kemna assisted them in working with the clay and making a pinch or slab pot. She had a number of her own works with her for inspiration for those who wanted to experiment with different techniques, including the piece that is featured for August in the 2008 calendar.

Dorothy Kretzchmar and artist Bobbi Kemna are pleased with the result of Kretzchmar's pinch pot basket.

Kemna had contacted the Presbyterian Manors home office in Wichita regarding Art is Ageless and her enthusiasm for the program and annual juried exhibit resulted in traveling to several locations to help promote the 28th Annual Art is Ageless exhibits at several Presbyterian Manor locations. She has become an ambassador of sorts for the program which seeks to provide opportunities for Manor residents and seniors in Presbyterian Manor communities to explore various artistic mediums.

The benefits of being involved in artistic endeavors are numerous. From the sense of accomplishment in completing an artwork, to the positive impact mentally by keeping the brain challenged, Art is Ageless seeks to encourage seniors in pursuing interests in the arts whether just for fun to see what they can do or to fulfill a lifelong desire that was set aside for work and family.
