Presbyterian Manors of Mid- America is pleased to announce the winners of the 25th anniversary Art is Ageless calendar competition. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Art is Ageless, special awards were added for the 2005 systemwide competition in addition to the selection of judged works that will be included in the 2006 25th Anniversary calendar. Three entries from Farmington Presbyterian Manor residents received systemwide awards. Ruth Nienhaus’ painting “Bird Watching” will appear on one of the 2006 Art is Ageless calendar pages. C. Kay Miller’s photograph “The Gathering” was selected for runner-up honors, and Lucy Ude’s painting “The Potting Shed” will appear on one of Presbyterian Manors’ note cards. Ruth, 67, has been an art teacher for 45 years. She became interested in watercolor as a medium in 1980 and switched from oil painting. “My husband and a group of friends were bird watching one afternoon and I snapped the photo which was the inspiration for this watercolor.” C. Kay, 74, has been shooting photography for “several years.” She is particularly fond of animals as her subjects. “These kittens were born in my back yard. I had just moved to the Farmington area, so I called them my ‘welcoming committee’ to my new home. I still have one of the kittens that I kept for myself.” Lucy, 84, started painting in 1960, when she asked Famous Barr Portrait Studio if she could sit in their studio and paint portraits from photos. She set aside her paints while at Washington University and after she retired in 1983, picked up portrait painting again, “mostly of my grandchildren.” Lucy finds painting to be a very therapeutic activity because she can set aside worries and problems. The 2006 Art is Ageless calendars are currently for sale. Calendars are $12 each. An order form is available online at presbyterianmanors. org. Packages of cards, which will include 10 note cards, two birthday and two anniversary cards may also be ordered for $12 per package
