One dictionary definition of a volunteer is: “…somebody who works for free; somebody who works without being paid.” While that may be the scholarly definition, Frances Pratte feels she gets “paid” every time she walks into Presbyterian Manor. Mrs. Pratte volunteers her time at the Manor in so many ways. She plays the piano for worship service every Wednesday afternoon, accompanies sing-alongs and visits with the residents. She and her husband Ed also help with each year’s Fall Festival. Like all great volunteers, Mrs. Pratte is willing to jump in at a moment’s notice when her talents or helping hands are needed. Because Mrs. Pratte’s mother, Glenda Ward, is a resident here at the Manor, Mrs. Pratte is aware of just how important these visits can be. When asked why she volunteers so much of her time at the Manor, she said simply, “Because I enjoy it! This is one thing I can do to bring a little music, fun and company into the residents’ lives.” Residents and staff of the Manor gratefully “pay” Mrs. Pratte with appreciation and thanks every time she comes into the Manor to share her time and talents, and she says the hugs and smiles are all the reward she could ever ask for. If you would like to volunteer your time and talents, there are a variety of ways to do so at Farmington Presbyterian Manor. Please call Kathy Vaughn at 573-756-6768 to find out more.
