Contest brings back memories of family picnics

Sarah Van Sickle, Linda Morgan and Kathy Robert prepare to judge the entries in the Picnic Food Cooking Contest.

 

A Picnic Food Cooking Contest was held on June 17, and event that brought back memories of family picnics for many in the crowd. There were eight entries in the contest that each vied for the first-place prize, including, salads, sandwiches and cookies.

Judges Sarah Van Sickle, daughter of Director of Nursing Sondra Van Sickle, Linda Morgan, administrative assistant, and Kathy Robert, social services designee, sampled each of the dishes. After much deliberation, they awarded first place to Trusler Plaza resident Rae Weast for her wonderfully nutritious pimento cheese sandwiches. Glenda McDaniel in the Activities Department received second place for her carved watermelon that was filled with fresh fruit. Third place was awarded to Patrick Kluthe for his baked beans. Patrick works in the Maintenance Department.

A large crowd gathered to watch the judging, and residents and staff alike enjoyed sampling each of the dishes after the judging with completed.
