Please join us Aug. 13-21 for our Art is Ageless juried exhibit that will include all of the pieces entered in this year’s contest. The exhibit is located in the atrium. We will hold an artists’ reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14. Each year, residents are invited to enter their works of art, ranging from photography to painting to crafts of all kinds, in the Art is Ageless contest. One new addition to the competition this year is the inclusion of older adults in the Emporia area in the competition and exhibit. The only requirement was that the pieces were made in the past five years when the artist was 65 years or older. The Manor won’t be the only location celebrating the artistic talents of older adults in August, though. August was declared Art is Ageless Month in Kansas and Missouri to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Art is Ageless competition. The signing of the proclamation by Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius was on July 21, with several Manor locations represented. In Missouri, the signing was on July 13 with Gov. Matt Blunt and Manor staff and residents in attendance. We are pleased to be able to honor the work of our residents and of all the seniors throughout our service areas in this manner and share their talents with our communities.
