Presbyterian Manor of the Plains Calls for Entries for the 2007 Art is Ageless Juried Exhibit

Presbyterian Manor of the Plains announced that plans are underway for its 27th annual Art is Ageless Juried Art Exhibit. Local artists and craftspeople who are 65 years old or older are invited to participate and compete for a chance to be featured in the 2008 Art is Ageless Calendar.

Presbyterian Manors chose two years ago to open entries to all artists who are seniors in our area because this is a celebration of art and the ageless nature of creativity, said Patty McGee, marketing director. Each year we have seen the exhibit grow and become more inclusive of artists throughout our area.

Entry forms are available at Manor of the Plains, 200 Campus Drive, the Carnegie Art Center, 701 2nd Ave. or Dodge City Senior Center. Entries will be on display at the Carnegie Art Center beginning with the show/exhibit opening and reception on August 11 and will remain on display through September 8. Deadline for entries to be delivered to the Carnegie Center is August 4.

McGee says, This is an ideal opportunity for people to display their artistic abilities in any medium they choose--whether sculpture, watercolors, acrylic, oil, stained glass whatever their chosen medium. Artists need to have been 65 years of age or older when the work was created and works need to have been completed in the past five years (since January 2002). Competition categories include drawing, painting, photography, sculpture/3-dimensional, needlework, fiber arts and mixed media. Each participating artist is limited to three entries with no more than two entries allowed in a single category for the juried exhibit. However, McGee explains, artists may enter other categories for works that are for exhibit only and not to be judged.

Art Is Ageless began in 1980 as a competition for residents and employees throughout the Presbyterian Manors system to appear in an annual calendar. Since then, the competition has grown to encompass preliminary judging and exhibits at the local level with winners in each category sent via slide photography to the corporate office for final judging. In addition, art programs to benefit residents at all levels have provided artistic outlets and therapeutic programs in many Manor locations.
