Pie company is highlight of tasty tour On June 22, residents traveled to Washington, Kan., to tour the Marcon Pie Co. The company has been in business for 20 years. It produces around 500 pies daily, and more than 100,000 pies were made last year. Last Thanksgiving,more than 1,700 pies were ordered. The company employs 16 people, and the pie dough is made fresh daily. The company was featured in Country Woman magazine three years ago and after the magazine’s issue came out, it received orders from coast to coast. The company also was featured in the Kansas City Star newspaper recently. The company makes 46 different kinds of pies and 12 different kinds of cheesecakes. The highlight of the tour was getting to eat a slice of pie. On the ride were residents Kenneth Carlson, Ora Allen, Sylvia Thompson, Betty Moore, Fern Walker, Fay Wirt, Firman Esslinger, Charlotte Gilbert, Gretchen King, Maxcene Neil and Margaret Hayworth.
