Music headlines Manor’s meeting

The topic for the August Manor Educational Society meeting was the violin.

Volunteer Lloyd Swenson told about his talent of making violins. Lloyd bought a book and taught himself how to make violins. He has completed eight and is working on two more. He said it takes about nine months to make one, and he usually works on two at a time.

He told the group that he uses the following types of wood: rose, native cedar, spruce, curling maple, ebony and brazilian hardwood for the different parts of the violin.

At the close of the program, Lloyd played several songs on his violin. Thank you, Lloyd, for sharing your beautiful violins and talent with us.
