Presbyterian Manor Banquet & Fundraiser Quilt Giveaway

Anyone who constructs quilts knows that they are all labors of love, time and patience. Whether you are making a quilt for warmth, a gift or just for the pure enjoyment of constructing a quilt, each one has a story of its own.

The 18th Annual Manor Banquet fundraiser quilt is, each year, a labor of love. The quilt has been constructed, hand quilted, and is in the process of getting the final touches completed. This year’s quilt is adapted from a pattern called “Anna’s Hands.” The quilt was constructed from blocks pieced together by volunteers Nancy Ryan, Shirley Mackender, Susie Randle, Cathy Affolter, Vicki Pfizenmaier, Terri Jermark, Mary Jo Bull, Audrey Pfizenmaier, and Manor employee Heather Germann.

After the quilt top was constructed, it made its debut before being quilted at the local Piotique Quilt Guild meeting in January. Hand quilting started in earnest in late January and was completed in less than a month time. Quilting was completed by Joann Coberly, Dorothy Buseman, Shirley Mackender, Frances Selig, Pat Gilbert and Manor resident Dorothy Gerardy.

This year the quilt will be on a “town tour” again, spending March & April at the Citizen’s National Bank, Union State Bank, and United Bank & Trust. The quilt will also be on display at the KCLY Spring Fair on April 4th.

The quilt giveaway is always a highlight of the banquet as is the live auction held before the grand prize drawing. The public is invited to attend this fund raising event for the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund. The banquet will be held Tuesday, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The meal this year will consist of smoked pork loin, scalloped potatoes, vegetable, pasta salad, a roll and dessert. Tickets for the meal are $7.50 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 and kids 5 & under are free. You can also purchase a Family Ticket for $20. Anyone interested in participating in the drawing for the quilt or four $100 savings bonds may visit the local business on the quilt’s “town tour” or contact Presbyterian Manor at 785-632-5646. There is a suggested donation of $1 per drawing ticket or a donation of $5 for six tickets.

The Good Samaritan Fund helps provide assistance for residents whose financial resources are exhausted through no fault of their own. Generous gifts from residents, their families and other friends of Presbyterian Manor of Clay Center are vital to the continued availability of the Good Samaritan Fund.
