Presbyterian Manor banquet and quilt drawing raise funds for residents

Clay Center Presbyterian Manor’s annual banquet and quilt drawing is May 4. This is the 20th year the nonprofit retirement community will hold its fundraising event. KCLY radio personalities Rocky Downing & Phil Kasper will emcee the evening’s events this year, which include musical entertainment and a silent auction.

The banquet is the major fundraiser for Manor’s Good Samaritan Fund, which helps provide assistance for residents whose financial resources are exhausted through no fault of their own. Generous gifts from friends of the Manor are vital for the continued availability of the Good Samaritan Fund.

The meal will feature hickory smoked brisket by Lee Biery of Clyde, scalloped potatoes, vegetable, pasta salad, rolls and dessert. The local Presbyterian church worship team, 24 Feet, will play during dinner.

The quilt drawing, which has become a Clay Center tradition, will take place after dinner. The quilt top was donated by Pat and Ron Gilbert of Salina, and hand-quilting was done by Manor residents and volunteers. The quilt will be on display at the KCLY Spring Fair April 30, then at Union State Bank through May 4. The chance drawing for the quilt and four $100 saving bonds is usually the highlight of the evening. A suggested donation is $1 per drawing ticket or a donation of $5 for six tickets. Tickets are available at the bank or the Manor. Also this year, there will be a silent auction going on throughout the event on items donated by community businesses. .

The Manor banquet will be held at the Methodist Church Family Life Center at Fifth and Clark Street in Clay Center from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7.50 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under; a Family Ticket is $20. To participate in the drawing for the quilt or four $100 savings bonds, visit the Union State Bank on the quilt’s “town tour,” or call Presbyterian Manor at 785-632-5646.

Everyone is invited to attend the event, bid on some nice items, eat some great food and enjoy the wonderful entertainment provided.
