Resident profile: Robert St. George

Manor resident Robert St. George is proud of his military service.

He’s also proud of his father’s service in World War I and his brother’s service in World War II.

Robert was born in Waltham, Mass., went to trade school to become a cabinet maker in 1942, then enlisted into the service of Uncle Sam.

He became a radio repairman but had other talents as well. Robert loved playing the drums and performed with a dance band at various clubs.

Robert never forgot that his father, Napoleon, fought in the Army in 1918 in Akon, France.

He remembers his brother, Joseph, serving his country also during World War II as a cook aboard the U.S.S. Cleveland in 1944.

The St. George legacy can be found in the photos Robert keeps in his apartment and by the stories he tells. Let’s keep these stories alive and pass them on to the next generation.

Robert has a philosophy: “Call it anti-aging, but sometimes your mind plays tricks on you. You act 40, but your body has aged before you realize it and here I am at 84 (as of Dec. 7, 2006). With all the anti-aging medicine we have, only you can make it possible to go on. Remember, you’re only as old as you feel. First, you must learn to accept the inevitability of aging and know how to keep mind and body as healthy as possible. Think positive, while moving through life's successive stages. My life has been filled with the 3 L’s: Live, Laugh and above all, Love.”
