From the local competition, winners will go on to be judged alongside winners from local competitions at 14 other Presbyterian Manor locations. System competition winners will appear in the 2006 Art is Ageless Calendar, Christmas Card, note cards and birthday cards. “Our residents show us every year that this community is alive with creative talent,” said Margaret Wahlborg, Presbyterian Manor marketing director. “And we’re pleased to have our residents and the community joining in to make this an exhibit that displays that.” First place entries in each category will be submitted in the system wide contest for the calendar. Winners in the Arkansas City juried exhibit were: - Jean Stockton, painting
- Lola Harp, needlework
- Wanda Henderson, fiber arts
- Connie Shanks, mixed media
- Maxine Earle, drawing
- Gary Hanna; photography
- Rosemary Von Hoene, Sculpture/3D
- Best of Show was won by Sarah Rademacher with her needlework entry.
Judges for the exhibit this year were Mark Flickinger, Mike Fell and Danice Sweet. “I thought the exhibit was fantastic, I really thought the variety of pieces showed how talented our residents and exhibitors from the community really are. The exhibit this year, gave each participant the feeling that art truly is ageless,” said Margaret Wahlborg. “All seven of the categories were represented, and very nicely done.” For more information about the Art is Ageless Exhibit contact Margaret Wahlborg, 620-442-8700 or mwahborg@pmma.org. The Art is Ageless Exhibit is an extension of the Art is Ageless calendar contest, an annual tradition of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, the parent organization of Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City. A contest to select works for the calendar, which represents retirement communities throughout the Presbyterian Manor system, began in 1980 and has been held annually since. With the addition of the local exhibit for the preliminary judging, the purpose is to generate awareness that aging doesn’t necessarily mean giving up things we enjoy, and we may even find new talents.
