The Volunteer of the Year Award is designed to honor individuals whose volunteer achievements have made a difference to the lives of the people working and living in member organizations. Coleen Finley volunteers 30 or more hours a week at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City, assisting in organizing activities, completing paperwork, conducting book reviews, organizing social events, cooking, and meeting individually with residents. “Coleen’s commitment and dedication to the residents and activities program speak of her character,” says Executive Director Sarah Griggs. “She has built personal relationships with several residents and considers them her family. She has committed herself and her time for events to provide continuity for the residents. They know that they can count on Coleen to follow through on any request.” KAHSA is a statewide association of more than 160 nonprofit long-term care organizations and retirement communities. Its mission is to provide services to members to assist them in enhancing the quality of life of the elders they serve. This year KAHSA is celebrating the sixteenth year of the Quality First Awards of Excellence for outstanding programs at member organizations. By Rudy Silva, nutritionist
