Presbyterian Manor announces Art is Ageless local winners

Presbyterian Manor recently held a juried exhibit for the 27th Annual Art is Ageless competition. From the local competition, winners will go on to be judged alongside winners from local competitions at the 17 other Presbyterian manor locations. System competition winners will appear in the 2008 Art is Ageless Calendar, Christmas cards, note cards and occasion cards.

“Our residents show us every year that this community is alive with creative talent,” said Margaret Wahlborg, Presbyterian Manor marketing coordinator. “We are pleased to have our residents and the community joining in to make this an exhibit that displays that.”

Winners in the Arkansas City juried exhibit were:

  • Jean Stockton painting
  • Sheldon, photography
  • Nellie Hite, needlework
  • Evelyn McKelvy, Fiber Arts
  • Cleo Graves, mixed media.

Best of Show, voted on by residents and the public, went to Dorothy Brinkman for her needlework entry. Judges for this year’s event were Danice Sweet, Ellen Snell and Kim Ebert.

“This year’s exhibit was fantastic. I thought the variety of pieces showed how talented our residents and exhibitors from the community really are. The exhibit this year, gave each participant the feeling that art truly is ageless,” said Margaret Wahlborg. Five of the seven categories were represented, and very nicely done. Missing in this year’s competition were drawing and sculpture/3D, which would include woodcarving. We hope to have all categories represented in our next year’s event.”

The Art is Ageless Exhibit is an extension of the Art is Ageless calendar contest, an annual tradition of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, the parent organization of Wichita Presbyterian Manor. A contest to select works for the calendar, which represents retirement communities throughout the Presbyterian Manor system, began in 1980 and has been held annually since. With the addition of the local exhibit for the preliminary judging, the purpose is to generate awareness that aging doesn’t necessarily mean giving up things we enjoy, and we may even find new talents.

An order form for the 2008 Art is Ageless Calendar and note cards is available on the web site.
