Themed activities at the Village

Recent News

From left, Rachael Waugh, Kate McIntyre and Christina Wilson channel their inner buccaneers during a pirate-themed week of activities.

Paula Simons, CTRS, has a primary goal as activities director: to improve the quality of life for all the residents at the Village. She has the support of three inspiring staff members: Rachael Waugh, Kate McIntyre and Christina Wilson.

Rachael, Kate and Christina have started a program in the health care center that has really taken off. They develop themes for each week of the month and include activities to support the theme. Sometimes this means wearing costumes to get in the spirit of the theme. During October, we celebrated with a pirate theme. The activities staff dressed in pirate costumes to create a fun day for residents. Their enthusiasm and excitement is rubbing off on everyone around them, including residents.

“Activities create an attitude,” says Paula. “It involves ways of interacting with residents that responds to their needs, strengths and limitations. Activities have a purpose as well as a therapeutic quality. Activities are not just for the sake of doing an activity.”

It’s apparent that the attitude of the entire activities staff is one of creativity and inspiration. Thank you for all that you do!
