We’ll visit the Johnson County Museum’s All-Electric House. According to the Johnson County Museum of History, “Whether you are a child of the 1950s or just curious about lifestyles from this nostalgic era, the 1950s All-Electric House offers an eye-opening look at technology of the times.” Kansas City Power and Light built the house in 1954 as a showcase for the latest in modern electric living. The house featured some futuristic marvels that are unbelievable even today. An electric curtain opener, bedside remote control for the coffee maker and waist-high electrical outlets are just a few of the home’s modern functions. During the six months that the home was open to the public in 1954, more than 600,000 visitors stepped through the front door for a first-hand look. The home, built in Prairie Village, was a family home for 40 years before it was moved to the Johnson County Museum site in Shawnee in 1994. So, if you are interested in taking a step back in time, join us on Oct. 4 for an outing to the 1950s All-Electric House. One might say they’ll “leave all the lights on for you!”
