Staying healthy during the holidays

The holidays are upon us, bringing with them an onslaught of holiday activities. It is during this time of year, that we all find it difficult to exercise regularly and eat nutritiously. Holiday demands placed upon an already busy schedule will quickly add up to increased stress and decreased energy.

Here are some tips for keeping fit during the holidays:

  • Don’t overbook yourself. Schedule time in your day for physical activity along with the list of social celebrations, shopping excursions and relaxation time.
  • Don’t surrender to the seasonal stresses. If you can’t make it to your favorite workout class, try an exercise video or dress in layers and take a walk.
  • While food certainly becomes a major component the holiday celebrations, don’t let it be your only focus. Concentrate instead on your family and friends and celebrate the joy of being together.

The holidays are season of celebration. With these simple tips in mind, this may just be the year that you won’t have to make a New Year’s resolution to drop those extra holiday pounds!
