Health & Wellness at Presbyterian Manors

It is estimated that nearly 75 percent of people over the age of 70 do not get enough exercise to help keep their bones and immune systems strong. The benefits of exercise go beyond the physical, as endorphins released during exercise also contribute to improved energy and mood. For seniors especially, a healthy amount of exercise contributes, along with engaging in lifelong learning, to keeping the brain stimulated.

Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America defines wellness through physical, social, learning and spiritual programs that help residents stay healthy. All of these aspects work together – we can be physically fit, but feel emotionally drained when we are isolated from companionship. A healthy spiritual life also contributes to our overall health and well-being. This is a core philosophy in our 17 active living and wellness communities.

You’ll find a variety of activities on Manor calendars that serve to meet these important needs for our residents. We seek to provide the kind of environment where impromptu opportunities can flourish to enable residents to seek what works for them. These can be as simple as an early morning coffee gathering, resident-lead Bible study, or a few who just like to get together to go for a walk every afternoon.

Here you’ll find tips to help you stay active and healthy -- some from our locations and others from trusted health sites.

As George Eliot once observed, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” Continue reading about the Art of Aging Well…
